German Lied postgraduate course

Teacher: Erik Battaglia – 7 sessions
Assistant: Milena Dolcetto

The German Lied postgraduate course at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole focuses on the study and in-depth exploration of the German Lied repertoire. It is open to singers and pianists applying either as a duo or individually (in the latter case, the teacher will arrange duo work during the course), holding a pre-reform (Vecchio Ordinamento) diploma or a first-level AFAM diploma.
The school organises public concerts considered an integral part of the educational program. These concerts allow the students of the German Lied postgraduate course to test the level of their preparation.
The most deserving students may apply for merit-based scholarships awarded through the school’s internal competition held in March/April.
Thanks to the excellent technical and musical training provided by the German Lied postgraduate course, talented young singers and pianists can pursue high-level professional opportunities in the music and concert field.

The German Lied postgraduate course is intended for musicians holding a pre-reform (Vecchio Ordinamento) diploma or a first-level AFAM diploma. Exceptionally talented students who have not yet completed a diploma may also be admitted.
The course will only be activated if a minimum number of participants is reached.
Auditors are accepted.

The program of the advanced masterclass in German Lieder focuses on the study of the main German Lieder, but it will also be possible to study and refine Canzoni, Songs, and Mélodies from the international vocal chamber music repertoire. The study program will be discussed and tailored to the participants’ own proposals (whether in a duo or not), with any potential additions suggested by the faculty. In particular, this year, in collaboration with the viola, cello, and chamber music classes, the course will produce Fauré’s cycle La bonne chanson, in the version for voice, piano, and string quintet, with the goal of a public performance.

For admission to the German Lied postgraduate course, candidates are required to perform: 2 Lieder by Schubert, 1 Lied by Schumann and 1 Lied by a composer of their choice (including pieces in Italian, French, or English)
