Inclusive projects

Inspired by the orchestral programmes created by José Antonio Abreu, which brought music to thousands of Venezuelan children, offering them the opportunity to learn music as a means of personal development, integration and social advancement, the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole runs three orchestral and choral programmes – completely free of charge for participants – in the Florentine neighbourhoods of Piagge, Isolotto and Cure.

Highly qualified teachers, assisted each year by young trainees from the school’s academic courses, conduct their lessons using up-to-date teaching methods and targeted intervention strategies. These contribute to embedding the programmes in the social fabric of the neighbourhoods by involving families, organisations and local networks.
At the same time, the programmes naturally form part of the life of the school, taking part in concerts and institutional initiatives throughout the school year.

The Nucleo Orchestra delle Piagge, established at the Duca D’Aosta Primary school of IC Gandhi, has welcomed children and young people since 2012, teaching them to sing and play together on string instruments, wind instruments and piano, while offering them free, high-quality tuition inspired by the principles of ensemble music-making.

The Nucleo Isolotto Big Band was established in 2019 and is based at the Eduardo De Filippo Primary school of IC Barsanti. It offers children aged 6 to 13 an ensemble music programme involving wind instruments and percussion. The composition of the group reflects the multicultural character of the Isolotto neighbourhood, and thus its repertoire includes music from different parts of the world.

The Nucleo ManInCoro in Cure has been active since 2023 at the premises of the Associazione le Curandaie. It promotes participationin choral activities among children and young people with motor and intellectual disabilities, through the interaction between singing and sign language, as well as among young people who wish to discover music, singing and this essential means of communication.

Our advance thanks go to everyone who wishes to support these activities, through which we are confident that the school makes an important contribution to the artistic and civic development of children, as well as to bringing together the many different components that make up our community.
